Monday -
So last Monday was a pretty weird p-day. We woke up in the morning to go out and immediately get our emailing done but it ended up taking a couple hours to find a computer shop that was open and the one we ended up going to wasn't super desirable either. We also had a limited amount of time to email and things because we had a lunch appointment scheduled with an old less active member that we met the day before. It was really nice of her and she paid for our meals at Chow King. It was very nice of her but it was also a little awkward because it kind of felt like we were taking advantage of her even though it was her own free will. She also tried to speak to us in English the whole time in the very loud environment. Most of the time it's just easier if Filipino's just speak to us in Tagalog because it's easier to understand their Tagalog with our limited knowledge of the language, than to understand their English with our vast knowledge of the language. Also I bought a book called "World's Greatest Speeches" at the National Book Store because in Doctrine and Covenants it says to learn about the "perplexities of nations" (Doctrine & Covenants 88:79 & 188) and also to "seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom." So I've been reading that in my free time and it's funny because some of the speeches are really good an other ones are just okay. There's actually a lot of speeches from Indian people because it was printed in India. I've learned a lot, including that Nelson Mandela used violent techniques which I didn't previously know.
Tuesday -
On Tuesday we had our district council in the morning. Before our district council could actually start though, it took us a couple hours to track down some keys to get into the church building despite the fact that we warned the members (that have the keys) in advance. After district council we then went to get our groceries. Usually we would get our groceries on Monday but the whole mission got permission to do grocery shopping on Tuesday because our monthly funds had not yet been placed in our accounts on Monday. We ended up going to Robinson's Place mall and then eating lunch the the Zark's burger place. After we got back home we then tried to go out and teach some lessons but none of our current investigators were available. We then headed up and finished our studies in the afternoon. Also, Elder Fuller and I determined that I said a statement that had probably never been said previously in history. I said "Now if you don't mind I'm going to throw away my old, half-eaten can of Turkey SPAM over the fence into the duck farm while using my flashlight to brighten the way."
Wednesday -
This was just another day without a ton of success. We ended up teaching one lesson to our, at the time, soon to be convert Lolita Tumamao. We just finished the last couple lessons she needed and it went pretty well. Also, during lunch Elder Fuller and I ate some canned peaches that we bought on Monday. They were very delicious especially compared to the type of tropical fruit we usually have. It's just nice to have variation. I was intending on eating a couple but then I told Elder Fuller it was my ninth month on the mission and he simply told me to eat all of them for the heck of it. So I did. It was a lot of peaches and delicious none the less. Near the end of the day after working and stuff we got invited to the house of Brother Rofol. We talked to him for a bit and we met some of his family members that are actually from California. It was a surprise to talk to people that knew English and from an "American culture." It was kind of funny because Elder Fuller and I both had to force our selves not to speak Tagalog to them and it was weird to try and get to know them in English rather than Tagalog. Elder Fuller even asked for their ages which is a very normal question here, but he didn't remember that in American you don't usually ask adults, especially women, how old them are. It's pretty weird and interesting to see how far we've come in the culture here and how we've adjusted to it.
Thursday -
We ended up teaching one lesson to our investigator Nimfa Pacleb. We also tried to do a ton of finding to no avail once again. We also witnessed a baby chick getting taken by a hawk from it's mother hen. It was a random surprise and felt like we were on National Geographic or something.
Friday -
We also tried finding again but with strangely no success. It's really weird though because with our same finding technique last week we found 17 people but it was impossible this week . We also ended up filling up the baptismal font for our baptism on Saturday.
Saturday -
In the morning we ended up trying finding again. We ended up finding one very nice lady, but only one. At least we found one I guess. She was very friendly we we look forward to return and teach her with more of her family.
Later, we had the baptism of Lolita Ramos Tumamao. Lolita is someone that I've actually been teaching the whole time I've been in the San Lorenzo B area. She's 59 years old and kind of a jokester. Her son is 18 and has a mission call to the Philippines Naga Mission. He's even more of a jokester but I like him a lot actually. Luckily he was able to be the one to baptize his mother before he leaves soon on his mission. We were kind of cutting it close since he leaves this week but I'm glad we were able to get it done. Oh, and of course, being in the Philippines, the baptism started an hour late.
Sunday -
We had church and then tried to do more finding again.
